At the north and westside of the Acropolis you can find the Plaka area. The name Plaka means 'large stone', wich was found in a church of Ayois Georgios of Alexandria. This area are the remains of the village that Athens used to be before the late 1800's. When you walk in the small streets which are free of traffic, it seams you're not in a major capital but on a small island. lots of restaurants and cafes and tourist shops fill this area in a pleasant way.
